Actor, writer and producer, Herman “J.R.” Johnson, a Mississippi resident who is rising and making quite the buzz as an upcoming actor, writer, and film producer. The Chicago native began in theatre at an early age. His passion for creating and performing did not stop short of music. His creative abilities and passions grew and led him to study theatre which later broadened into film, here in Mississippi. So far Johnson has performed in half a dozen professional main stage theatre productions. And he’s just getting started. In his productions, Johnson has showcased many talents young and old. Some he’s met while performing at New Stage Theatre, and from local film/acting classes and other productions. It is through those connections credits his detailed perspective and an eye for the art he loves and enjoys.In 2021, he co-starred as “Oklahoma Kid” in a western loosely based on true events, titled “Texas Red” that's now streaming on Tubi. Most recently Johnson has released a mini pilot series on Amazon Prime titled “Get It On Jones” from his own production company Story Mode Productions alongside Hidden Planet Productions. The series follows a small town detective in the 70’s, who just wants to keep home safe. “Get It On Jones” is written, and starring Johnson, as Detective Jones. Although Herman creates and produces the majority of the music from his productions, he also incorporates some Mississippi musicians. Musicians such as Coke Bumaye and singer Vershaune Stamps are just some to name a few. Johnson has also worked with Grammy Award winning Blues Performer Cedric Burnside. With more productions up his sleeve yet to be released, Herman “J.R.” Johnson is absolutely on his way to helping bring Mississippi into the forefront of many more amazing productions in the near future.
